Embark on a unique and educational adventure that offers a chance to learn about shark research directly in the field. This immersive experience is designed for enthusiasts, students, and anyone curious about marine life and conservation. Led by seasoned marine biologists and researchers, participants will delve into the captivating world of sharks, their behavior, their habitats, and the ongoing efforts to safeguard their existence. This trip offers a rare chance to go beyond traditional classroom learning and truly immerse yourself in shark research and marine science.

ABOUT THE TRIP:

​Departure time: 9 am from Miami, Florida - aboard the R/V Garvin

​Return time: Around 4pm - same day

Full day of hands on shark research. This includes setting lines, learning how to safely collect data from temporarily caught sharks, safe release, and why particular research methods are used.

Light lunch and snacks are included

Presentations from our Sharks4Kids team will include the topics of shark science, careers, and conservation.

This program is designed to provide marine science content enrichment, model science inquiry methods and technology integration strategies with current scientific research, provide opportunities for interdisciplinary connections, facilitate utilization of Sharks4kids resources for teachers, and foster a collaboration with our team and other teachers for ongoing networking. Evening presentations provide framework for bringing these incredible experiences back to the classroom.

We are excited to partner with the Field School, aboard the Research Vessel Garvin, for this intensive 3-day program in the field.
​
WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORS: Jillian Morris (Sharks4Kids Founder & President) and Leann Winn
DAILY FIELD ACTIVITIES: Setting scientific drum lines and longlines, collecting data from temporarily caught sharks, safe release, development of shark research skills, seine netting, and BRUV deployment.

EVENING PRESENTATION TOPICS:

Intro to Sharks: Anatomy, diversity, adaptations, threats and conservation

Bringing this experience and knowledge back to the classroom, school, or group.
